Healthy competition inspires young people to do their best, facilitator Sîrbu Daniela
Our Lyceum will host the Kangaroo Linguist Contest on April 24. Participants can be students in grades 2–12. The English teachers at our school are in charge of organising it.
Our teachers do not examine the answer sheets; instead, a robot checks them all when they are transmitted to Romania.
Students who participate are awarded a certificate.
If you choose to enter the competition, find out from your English teacher how to add your name to the list. You have until April 12 to make a decision.
The Institute for the Development of Evaluation in Education in Romania states that participation in the competition costs 55 lei.
WHAT IS THE LINGUISTIC KANGAROO CONTEST?
The Kangaroo Linguist program is launched and managed by the Institute for the Development of Evaluation in Education in Romania. This event takes place in nine countries: Albania, Cyprus, Egypt, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and Vietnam.
The Linguistic Kangaroo Contest is an exciting international competition for students aged 6 to 19. It is organized for various foreign languages, including English, French, German, and Romanian (for students whose first language is Romanian).
For foreign languages, the Linguistic Kangaroo assesses knowledge of language and civilization, together with intuition, logic, and reaction speed in reading with comprehension. This test is available for levels: Pre-A1, A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1, possibly for pre-A1, A1-A2, A2-B1, B1-B2, B2-C1, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It also contains a set of questions addressing students’ general culture. There are a maximum of 30 questions in the Pre-A1 level, while the higher levels consist of up to 50. The effective time for a test is 60 minutes.
The linguist kangaroo tests knowledge of language and civilization, intuition, logic, and reaction speed. Six skill levels are offered to students. Each student can choose the level that suits him/her and that he/she knows will score the best.
The evaluation of the participants is done according to the criteria of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). All students from grades I-XII who are not native speakers of the language can participate.
The International Linguist Kangaroo (ILK) Contest – English is based on a multiple-choice system. Participating students are divided into levels by grade.
